Statue of Old Sharptooth

The Statue of Old Sharptooth is an unsettling reptilian effigy tied to the mythology and cultural identity of the Sootscale kobold tribe. The statue is a symbolic representation of the kobolds’ former deity, Old Sharptooth, an enigmatic figure associated with curses and control. It is a crude yet powerful artifact, both feared and revered within the tribe.

Although initially imbued with cultural and spiritual significance, the statue came to embody a curse that plagued the Sootscale kobolds. This curse allowed Old Sharptooth’s influence to dominate the tribe, creating strife and internal conflict.

  • 5 Pharast 4710 The party discovered the Statue of Old Sharptooth in the lair of the mitflits beneath Old Sycamore. Despite its ominous appearance, magical analysis revealed no inherent magical properties.

The party handed the statue over to Mic-Mac, a kobold ally, who became ecstatic upon its recovery and insisted it be returned to his tribe in the Sootscale Caverns.

  • 6 Pharast 4710 Upon presenting the statue to Chief Sootscale, leader of the Sootscale kobolds, the chief dramatically smashed the statue, shouting, “DEATH TO OLD SHARPTOOTH!” This act symbolized the tribe’s rejection of their old deity and their desire for freedom from its influence.

Following this event, the chief promised that Lizzy could keep the shards of the statue only under the condition that it would never be restored. This ensured the curse tied to Old Sharptooth would remain broken.

The destruction of the statue marked a turning point for the Sootscale kobolds, initiating their efforts to reclaim their independence and rebuild their society.

  • 7 Pharast 4710 After the defeat of Tartuk, a usurper and manipulator within the tribe, the Sootscale kobolds formally aligned with the party. They rewarded Lizzy with the broken pieces of the statue as a token of gratitude for helping liberate their tribe from both Tartuk’s manipulation and Old Sharptooth’s lingering influence.
