Sootscale Kobolds

The Sootscale Kobolds are a resilient kobold clan living in an abandoned silver mine, referred to as the Sootscale Cave, located within the Greenbelt. Once manipulated into worshiping the malevolent usurper Tartuk, the tribe was thrust into a violent feud with the Mitflits of Old Sycamore. Under the guidance of Chief Sootscale, the clan has begun to reclaim its autonomy and rebuild its strength, supported by alliances with the party.

The Sootscale Kobolds were deceived into worshiping a statue of Old Sharptooth, a supposed kobold deity, introduced by Tartuk. This manipulation fractured the tribe and led to its decline. Tartuk’s leadership exacerbated tensions with the Mitflits, resulting in frequent skirmishes and significant losses for the Sootscale tribe. After we intervened, Tartuk was defeated, and Chief Sootscale shattered the statue of Old Sharptooth.

Members

Chief Sootscale is the current leader of the tribe. He is open to alliances, provided they align with the tribe’s survival and autonomy.

Mic-Mac is a loyal kobold who played a crucial role in aiding the party against Tartuk. Now a pivotal figure in the tribe’s recovery efforts, Mic-Mac is tasked with organizing a kobold militia. Nak-Pick is a steadfast ally of Mic-Mac.

Kosk, Ulsi, Ruznegok, and Brex are hunter/gatherers for the Sootscale Kobolds.

History

• 5 Pharast 4710 We first learn of the Sootscale Kobolds through Mic-Mac, a kobold rescued from the Mitflits under Old Sycamore. He shares the plight of his tribe, including their manipulation by Tartuk and the theft of the statue of Old Sharptooth​​.

• 6 Pharast 4710 We escort Mic-Mac back to the Sootscale Cave, where we meet Chief Sootscale. The tribe is in disarray, with Tartuk consolidating power through fear and superstition. Chief Sootscale agrees to ally with the party if we eliminate Tartuk and help restore order​​.

• 6 Pharast 4710 We confront Tartuk in the Sootscale Cave and defeats him. Chief Sootscale ceremonially shatters the statue of Old Sharptooth.

  The Sootscales begin rebuilding, with Mic-Mac tasked with organizing a kobold militia. Other members, such as Nak-Pick, take on active roles in the tribe’s recovery efforts​​.

• 22 Pharast 4710 A group of hunter/gatherers of the Sootscale Kobolds, including Nak-Pick, meets us at our camp near the rickety bridge after the defeat of the Stag Lord. We share news of our progress, and the kobolds cook Moon Radish soup for us as a gift.

  During this visit, Nak-Pick inform us of new mining prospects, including a potential vein of gold.

• 26 Pharast 4710 The Sootscale Kobolds reconnect with us during a brief visit to their lair. We hold a smaller party to celebrate the defeat and invite the kobolds for a larger celebration in 2-3 weeks, the Brightmarch Festival.
