4 Pharast 4710

Kairos keeps first watch when she hears rustling in the bushes. As a precaution, she uses Detect Magic to scan the area, but finds no magic present. Stealthily, she approaches the bushes, meanwhile using her Telekinetic Hand to wake the camp. Suddenly, an owlbear roars from the bushes. The creature unleashes a Bloodcurdling Screech, frightening the entire party. It then attacks Kairos with its talons, grappling her and using a Gnaw attack, which instantly takes her out with a combined 22 damage and gnawing.

Djames and Lizzy wake up. Djames grabs his book and casts Daze on the owlbear, noting it isn’t very effective. Lizzy uses a two-action Heal, restoring 13 HP to Kairos. Leonardo grabs his sword and casts Runic Weapon. Kairos, now healed, retrieves her weapon and uses Dimensional Assault to attack the owlbear, then stands up.

The owlbear attacks Lizzy with a talon and a gnaw. Djames heals Lizzy to 11 HP. Lizzy uses an Inkshot attack and grabs her dagger. Leonardo uses Heroic Stride to approach the owlbear and strikes with his runic weapon. Kairos moves in with a spellstrike using Gouging Claw. The owlbear then attacks Leonardo and moves away, taking persistent damage.

Djames heals Kairos for 5 HP. Lizzy uses Recall Knowledge (Nature) and casts Slashing Gust. Leonardo casts Heal for 15 HP and then a Shield spell. Kairos uses Dimensional Assault, enters Arcane Cascade, and raises a shield. The owlbear returns, attacking Kairos twice. The first attack misses, but the second hits for 11 damage. The owlbear takes persistent damage again.

Djames uses Daze and attempts to Demoralize, but fails as the owlbear doesn’t understand him. Lizzy uses Needle Darts with cold iron. Leonardo flanks and strikes the owlbear powerfully, dealing nearly 50 damage, killing it. Lizzy harvests the owlbear.

Lizzy takes the next watch from a tree, predicting a weather event due to the threatening sky.

In the morning, Kairos reads academic books, Lizzy cleans herself and Gomi in the river, and Djames does his make-up. They ensure Lizzy stays warm with prestidigitation. The morning starts with a grey sky with thick overhanging clouds.

Djames and Kairos converse about Djames’s storytelling talents affecting reality. Kairos suspects Djames’s stories subtly alter timelines. Djames is intrigued but unaware of this effect. Kairos suggests they explore this further together.

The party heads to Old Sycamore, a 100-foot landmark tree. When we arrive at the tree, the first drops of rain start falling. Kairos talks about sycamore trees being forest guardians or ley line convergence points. Lizzy inspects the tree and, through a magical connection, receives insights from its past, including recent conflicts and the accelerated aging of the tree due to digging around its roots. The tree’s memories reveal ancient armies and conflicts, hinting at ongoing activities beneath its roots.

Lizzy communicates these findings to the party. She doesn’t understand death, so Djames and Kairos explain its natural cycle and inevitability, referencing Pharasma’s domain over life and death.

The party finds a cave entrance under the tree, leading to a small chamber with two tunnels. Lizzy uses her Darkvision, while the others struggle in the darker, smaller space, having to squeeze, all becoming clumsy. Leonardo overhears creatures speaking Sakvroth, realizing it’s mostly spoken underground. As soon as we enter the caves, a hard downpour starts, but luckily we’re mostly dry as the rain doesn’t seem to enter the cave system.

Lizzy crawls ahead and sees three workbenches with tools and two Mitflits firing at each other. She identifies them as pitiful, insecure creatures often bullied into servitude. Lizzy reports back to the party.

They sneak into the room, and Leonardo attempts to negotiate, but the Mitflits are aggressive. Leonardo attacks with Electric Arc and a strike. The first Mitflit retaliates with a shortsword and marbles, causing Leonardo to become clumsy. Djames performs a Courageous Anthem. Kairos uses Spellstrike with Gouging Claw and then Arcane Cascade. Lizzy climbs over the workbenches and knocks with his fists. The second Mitflit attacks with marbles again. Leonardo uses a nonlethal attack to knock out the first Mitflit, then Daze. Djames continues the Courageous Anthem and uses Daze. Kairos recharges Spellstrike and attacks twice.

They tie up the Mitflits with manacles. Lizzy treats their wounds while Leonardo interrogates them. Djames records the conversation. Leonardo learns there are about 50 Mitflits and their “friends” with long claws and tails. Leonardo threatens the Mitflits again.
