The rain continues to pour heavily outside, but we’ve found shelter in the caves below. There’s a staircase leading down, and we debated our options—retreat, explore another room, or head deeper. Naturally, curiosity won out. Kairos, ever cautious, asked Lizzy to send Gomi ahead to scout, particularly to see if the mitflit’s claims were honest. Gomi found a chasm covered in roots, and, more disturbingly, the sounds of a creature screaming in pain echoed from the depths.
We decided that the screams were enough of a reason to investigate further. Quietly, we descended into the lower caves, where we found a group of six mitflits tormenting a kobold. The poor creature, badly injured and close to death, was being poked with sharp sticks as it screamed in agony. There were more kobolds, but they hung dead from the walls. Kairos suggested negotiation, but Lizzy acted first, casting a Sleep spell that knocked out three of the mitflits. The others, of course, drew their weapons and attacked. Leonardo swiftly took one down, while Kairos, with her signature precision, spellstruck another, cutting through their meager defenses. Djames, always the performer, rallied us with his Lingering Composition and Courageous Anthem, keeping morale high.
Amid the chaos, one of the mitflits managed to wake up, firing darts at Lizzy, but barely scratching her. Lizzy, in retaliation, cast Slashing Gust, dealing swift justice to the remaining attackers. In the end, Leonardo’s Electric Arc finished the rest, and the final kobold vanished deeper into the caves.
The kobold we freed was frantic but grateful. His name was Mic-Mac, and he explained that Tartuk, a leader deeper in the caves, held a sacred statue. In exchange for our help retrieving it, he promised to recover a ring for us. Despite his panic, Lizzy comforted him, tending to his wounds, while Djames, in his usual exaggerative manner, noted Mic-Mac as a “kobold lord.” Leonardo, playing along, dubbed him a noble and joked about starting a new royal house. Kairos, ever the realist, reminded us that kobolds, while often seen as nuisances, still had a place in our kingdom and could contribute to its future.
We pressed on cautiously, approaching a large chasm. Kairos crossed with ease, but Leonardo struggled, needing two attempts, while Djames nearly dragged Lizzy down with him. Just as we recovered, a giant centipede attacked, immediately rendering Lizzy unconscious. A fierce battle ensued, with Djames working frantically to revive her. Even as she stood, the centipede struck again, knocking her down to the brink of death. Leonardo fought valiantly, while Kairos and Mic-Mac dealt damage from a distance. Eventually, Leonardo’s runic weapon delivered the killing blow, sending the centipede tumbling into the chasm below.
Further exploration led us to a room where Grabbles, a mitflit leader, and his advisors awaited, along with a giant tick named Tickleback. The fight was brutal. Kairos struggled to land an effective blow on Grabbles, and the mitflits swarmed us. Djames fell under the relentless attacks, and Tickleback’s bite inflicted him with tick fever. Despite the overwhelming odds, Mic-Mac and Leonardo stood strong, flanking the enemies. Kairos, with one final spellstrike, managed to kill Tickleback, while Leonardo and Mic-Mac handled the mitflits. With Grabbles cornered, Leonardo struck the final blow, ending the battle.
Exhausted but victorious, we regrouped, our task still incomplete, but a sense of progress in the air.
