After defeating the mites and recruiting Mic-Mac, we took a short break to recover. Djames entertained us with the tale of Quelindrill, while Lizzy recounted the history she’d read from the roots of Old Sycamore. Leonardo, as always, ensured the party was healed and ready to move forward.
The room we found ourselves in was a meager space, littered with a dirty rug, gravel, ropes, and a crude attempt at a map. In the center stood an eerie, reptilian statue. Despite its sinister appearance, Detect Magic and Read Aura revealed nothing magical about it. When we handed the statue back to Mic-Mac, he was overjoyed, though curious about Djames’ embellished version of events, where Mic-Mac’s role was made more heroic than reality. Lizzy deduced that the map, although poorly made, was accurate to the terrain in the southeast. Mic-Mac shouted his excitement, exclaiming, “Sootscale Caverns! I live there!” When asked about the mitflits, Mic-Mac confirmed that their numbers had dwindled from 50 due to the ongoing war. Kairos remarked on the potential threat of the remaining mitflits, but Mic-Mac dismissed the idea, scoffing at their ability to even cast basic spells. A tense moment followed when Lizzy pointed out that the kobolds still lost a war to the mitflits, causing Mic-Mac to lash out at her. Fortunately, we were able to defuse the situation before things escalated.
Pressing onward, we made our way to the common room of the mitflits. Mic-Mac, in his excitement, tripped over some trash, but we quickly helped him up. Kairos, always alert, noted the sound of eating coming from deeper within the room. She urged caution and moved ahead to scout, but Lizzy and Mic-Mac loudly called after her, spoiling any chance of stealth. Mic-Mac chatted about his new leader, Tartuk, as we moved forward.
Kairos scouted the next room, where she spotted at least one mitflit and three giant centipedes. The room was dimly lit, with a narrow path illuminated by flickering light. Together, Kairos and Lizzy formulated a plan to lure the centipedes into a narrow corridor, creating difficult terrain to slow them down. They positioned themselves to ambush the creatures as they entered. Leonardo called out in Zakphrot, luring a mitflit into the trap, and before it could raise the alarm, Kairos struck it down with a spellstrike. The room fell silent, and we prepared to leave for the Sootscale Caverns.
As we stepped outside, the weather had turned. The rain had stopped, but snow and hail began to fall heavily. With the worsening conditions, we decided to make camp beneath the shelter of Old Sycamore. Thankfully, no extra preparation was needed. Leonardo’s intimidating presence ensured no trivial threats approached us, while Djames spun one of his signature tales by the fire. Lizzy prepared a simple but satisfying meal—fish-on-a-stick—after foraging enough ingredients for the days ahead. Djames organized the watch, and we enjoyed a peaceful, uneventful night under the ancient tree.

We reached the Sootscale caverns early this morning, around 9:00. Lizzy immediately recognized the place from a map she had studied earlier. We knew the current kobold inhabitants posed a potential threat, so we proceeded with caution. Information from the bandits had led us to believe that Svetlana’s ring was with the mitflits, but Lizzy had seen a paper that revealed the kobolds had stolen it from them.
As we approached, a group of mitflits spotted us and quickly advanced. Lizzy acted first, casting Horizon Thunder Sphere and killing one of them outright. The remaining mitflits attacked us and Mic-Mac with slings and darts. Leonardo wasted no time, pummeling another to death, but he took a critical hit from a dart in return. Djames stepped forward, using Daze to subdue one, ensuring we captured a mitflit alive. Meanwhile, Kairos approached another and, with a single Phase Bolt, reduced it to a fine blood mist. By the time the dust settled, all the mitflits were dead. Leonardo then took a moment to heal the party before we moved on.
Eventually, we reached the entrance to the Sootscale Cave. A group of kobolds outside immediately recognized Mic-Mac and celebrated his return. One of the guards, still wary, asked if we were safe to approach. Mic-Mac vouched for us, and Djames took the opportunity to explain our intentions: we had come to meet their chief. A kobold named Nak-Pick then hurried off to fetch their leader.
Inside the cave, we presented the statue of Old Sharptooth that we had recovered. As soon as the chief of the Sootscale tribe laid eyes on it, he shattered the statue with a roar, yelling “DEATH TO OLD SHARPTOOTH!”, representing their rejection of the figure the statue depicted in a fairly dramatic manner. Mic-Mac, with tears and clear emotion, showed signs of distresses throughout the ordeal.
Lizzy asked if she can take the shards. However, the chief says Lizzy can only take the shards if the party defeats the ursurper, and even then only under the condition that Lizzy never restores the statue. The party also asks about the ring - the chief says it’s in the possession of the ursurpur Tartuk too.
